Mito Chamber Orchestra (MCO) 65th Regular Concert

Mozart Concertante!

If one is to listen to a Mozart concerto, one would prefer, of course, to have a virtuoso as the soloist. However, if that soloist gives the kind of performance that edges out or shoves aside the orchestra, or if the soloist and orchestra throw off sparks as they collide with each other, the result would be something far from what Mozart had in mind for his music. What needs to happen is for the beauty of the music to be unraveled like a riddle, bit by bit, amidst the kind of familiarity between the soloist and the orchestra in which each side can even hear the other breathe. Mozart opens the door to his flower garden to musicians who spare no effort in doing that sort of thing.

In a group such as the Mito Chamber Orchestra (MCO), the soloists are also members of the ensemble, while all the members are soloists as well; moreover, these virtuosi also know each other inside and out. Precisely because of that are they able to play "concerti of fellowship." Is there any more appropriate genre of music than the concerto for the MCO to pay its respects to Mozart?

The curtain rises on MCO's concert this time with Mozart's Overture to "Figaro," a piece sure to lift everyone's hearts. That is followed by the Oboe Concerto featuring the soloist Fumiaki Miyamoto, who is nearing the finale of his career as an oboist. That will be ensued by the Concerto for Flute and Harp, with Shigenori Kudo and Naoko Yoshino performing together on the Concert Hall ATM stage for the first time in 15 years. Next is the Clarinet Concerto, with the top clarinetist of the Berlin Philharmonic, Wenzel Fuchs, as soloist. The concert is a gift presented by the MCO to the genius Mozart, born 250 years ago. At the same time, it is a heartfelt gift made to those of you who love Mozart.

Apologies:
The Maestro Seiji Ozawa had been slated to conduct the 65th Regular Concert of the Mito Chamber Orchestra (MCO), but he has been forced to bow out owing to overwork and exhaustion. That has necessitated a change in both the dates of the concerts and the program this time. We ask your understanding in this matter. In addition, the 3rd European Tour of the MCO, scheduled to follow the 65th Regular Concert, has also been canceled.
